A record number of 270 farmers and staple members of southwests agricultural industry gathered in the Living Sky Casino’s Event Centre for the annual Farmer Appreciation event on Friday evening.

Sponsored companies including Monette Seeds, S3 Group, Innovation Credit Union, Viterra and more provided the food, wine, desserts, and more.

The wide array of quality food and drink was served following a brief introduction, speeches, a shoutout to the sponsors, and a toast.

“We had an overwhelming response,” said Karla Wiens, CEO at Swift Current and District Chamber of Commerce. “We didn’t even really have to advertise tickets, it just blew up. Which I think is a testament to celebrating agriculture in general, but also due to our wildly popular entertainer that we have this year, Quick Dick McDick!”

Further into the evening, entertainer, Quick Dick McDick, was able to connect with the audience through a heartfelt performance that included comedy, music, and a familiar small-town approach.

“It’s important for everybody to get out, get into their communities, get together and have some fun,” said Dickson Delorme, who goes by the stage name, Quick Dick McDick. “I guess the most important thing is for everybody to realize just how much we all have in common with each other.”

High-ranking community members came out to support the event and celebrate the prominent industry of agriculture that is the backbone of the southwest.

“Food is a basic human need that we all have no matter where you are from in the world, no matter what your background is. The agriculture community, whether you are a primary producer or involved in the retail side of it, in the technology or the research, all those men and women deserve to be celebrated. We’re only taking one evening to do it, but they deserve to be celebrated and appreciated every day.” Said Wiens when asked about the significance of the event.
