Fire crews in the southwest were called into action this past weekend after a fire near Eastend.

     Shortly after 1pm on Saturday, September19th, Eastend fire crews responded to a major grass fire burning out of control southwest of Eastend.  Crews from Shaunavon, Cypress Park, Val Marie, Frontier, Consul, and Maple Creek were called in to assist.  EMO was also called in to assist with food and water for the fire fighters.

     A portion of Highway 13 was closed for four hours due to heavy smoke, poor visbility, and the threat of fire.

     No injuries were reported, and there was no major loss, other than grass land and some bales.  The cause of the fire has been deemed accidental.
