Weekend's minor hockey schedule stays mostly intact despite the snow

This weekend’s snowfall did have an effect on some of the minor hockey action on the weekend. 

The Source for Sports U18 AA Broncos had their home game against Lumsden-Bethune postponed on Sunday, but they still picked up an 11-1 win over the Notre Dame Hounds on Friday night. 

The Pure Chem U15 Broncos beat Yorkton 5-1 and Melville 8-5 on the road, and the SWT U13 Broncos doubled up the Regina Royals 6-3 on Saturday before their game in Moose Jaw was postponed on Sunday. 

The Full Line Ag U18 Wildcats swept a three-game road swing with a 7-3 win over Warman, a 7-1 victory over the Northeast Aces and a 3-1 win over Prince Albert. 

The Graphic Edge U15 Wildcats played to a 5-5 tie and a 7-5 loss to the Southeast Gold Wings, and the WW Smith Insurance U13 Wildcats finished second at a tournament in Kindersley.

Steelers capture league title

In minor football, Colten Hurl and Cade Sanderson had rushing touchdowns as the Swift Current U-14 Steelers claimed the Moose Jaw league title with a 21-7 win over the Moose Jaw Raiders. 

It’s the first time Swift Current has won the league title since 2016. 

Edin sidelined in Tour Challenge win

Oscar Eriksson skipped Sweden’s Niklas Edin rink to a 7-3 win over Matt Dunstone in the finals of the Grand Slam of Curling’s Tour Challenge in Grande Prairie, Alberta, this weekend. 

Edin, a five-time world champion and reigning Olympic gold medallist, reaggravated a knee injury in the semi-finals. The team is scheduled to appear at the IG Wealth Management Western Showdown at the Swift Current Curling Club this weekend. 

On the women’s side, Rachel Homan defeated Kerri Einarson 8-4 in the final. 

Phillies and Astros to meet in World Series

Bryce Harper hit a clutch go-ahead two-run home run in the eighth inning as the Philadelphia Phillies beat San Diego 4-3 on Sunday to win the NLCS in five games and claim their first National League pennant since 2009. 

Later, the Houston Astros beat the Yankees 6-5 to complete a four-game sweep of the Yankees in the ALCS and win their fourth American League pennant in six seasons. The Astros have not lost a game in this postseason. 

The World Series starts on Friday in Houston.

McDavid and Crosby to square off in Monday NHL slate

Five Canadian teams are in NHL action tonight, with Connor McDavid's Edmonton Oilers hosting Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins at Rogers Place. Both stars have ten points through five games this season.

Elsewhere, Ottawa hosts Dallas, Winnipeg welcomes St. Louis, winless Vancouver entertains Carolina and Toronto visits Vegas.
