The 3rd Annual John Mueller Memorial "Give Me Shelter" SPCA Radiothon is happening today.

This year, the radiothon is playing on Magic 97 where the money raised today will go towards supporting the animal shelter's operations.

"People might not know that we have to raise about $250 thousand a year in the community in order to maintain our operations, " said Teresa Cole, the Development Officer for the Swift Current SPCA. "So this [radiothon] will be a significant piece of that and we're hoping people will support us."

The SPCA serves approximately 300 domestic pets (cats and dogs) annually, providing 24/7 - 365 day a year shelter, food, and care with a high standard of health safety

Cole says there are plenty of activities planned for today at Market Square.

"We've got activities like our bookstore on sight. We've got shelter pets to visit with from noon onward. And we've got a pet photographer from 3pm to 7pm to take pictures of your pets four our 2017 calendar."

She adds that there will be plenty of food offerings, as well.

"We've got a light breakfast with cinnamon buns, muffins and coffee. We've got a hot dog BBQ from 11am to 2pm, and then we'll have pizza from 4:30pm-6:30pm," Cole said.

Today's radiothon runs from 8am-8pm this year and it will be broadcast live all day on Magic 97 radio. Pledges will be taken by phone at 306-778-SPCA (7722).
