Great Plains College and the University of Saskatchewan signed a Memorandum of Understanding yesterday afternoon at the Great Plains College campus in Swift Current.

On hand for the signing were U of S President Peter McKinnon, and Great Plains College President Mark Frison.

McKinnon says this framework commits the two institutions to working together to better develop programs at the community level.  One of the biggest advantages of it is the ability for students to be able to study closer to home.  McKinnon adds, they are hopeful that the scope of studies for students under the M.O.U. will cover a wide range as it moves forward.

Frison says Saskatchewan currently has the second-lowest rate of students pursuing post-secondary education in Canada, at just 51%.  He says, hopefully, this will inspire people to continue their education, and also help make it easier for them to do that.

Frison says the M.O.U. is in effect for all Great Plains College campuses.
