The 12th Annual Field of Dreams Dinner is set to take place tonight.

This year, the annual fundraiser for the Swift Current Indians will feature keynote speaker Jacques Demers.

Demers, who grew up illiterate, went on to win the Stanley Cup as Head Coach of the Montreal Canadians.

Demers shared his thoughts on how to be successful in life.

"I would start with respect, that is so important. Respect for your parents, respect for your teachers and the people around you, that has to be a priority. Not to be a follower and to make decisions by yourself. A lot of kids that are followers usually get themselves in trouble so to avoid that and be your own man or your own women and be able to make your own decision that will create a positive and not a negative. On the others side of this continue to go to school, nothing is easy," he said.

Having to go through a tough childhood, which included an alcoholic father and the death of his mother, the Jack Adams award winner spoke about what motivated him through the hard times.

"Unfortunately I was there the day my mom died. Five minutes before she died she was still conscious and asked me in a very respectful way to take care of my two sisters and my brother who was living with an uncle at the time, she had been sick for three years. She did not want me to be like my dad and wanted me to make her proud. I left with that and never looked back, and although nothing was perfect I believe I respected her wish. She motivated me to do that," he said.

Tonight's event will get underway with cocktails at 6:00pm, followed by dinner at 7:00pm.

There will also be live and silent auctions at the end of the evening.

The Field of Dreams has operated for seventeen years, and has been a major supporter of our Swift Current Indians Baseball Club.
