Despite an impressive stat line, a former Swift Current Indian will not be making the jump from the AAA level to the MLB this season.

Jose Rojas, who played summer ball with the previously-named Swift Current Indians in 2015, tore it up in the Pacific Coast League this year with the Salt Lake Bees - the AAA affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels.

In 126 games this season with the Bees, Rojas mashed 31 homers, piled up 107 RBI, 39 doubles and seven triples while hitting at a .293 clip. He also earned 58 walks for a steady .362 on-base percentage.

The 6-foot, 200-pound Rojas, who hails from Anaheim, CA, has split time all around the diamond as well with Salt Lake:

  • 39 GP at second base
  • 33 GP as designated hitter
  • 31 GP at third base
  • 18 GP at first base
  • 12 GP in left field

However, Angels manager Brad Ausmus announced this week that Rojas will not receive a late-season promotion to the big leagues.

The Angels currently sit fourth in the American League West division with a 65-74 record. That mark also puts the Angels 15 games back of the second-and-final Wild Card spot in the AL.

Rojas' season will then come to a close with the Bees, who struggled to a 60-79 record.

Meanwhile, in his lone season in southwest Saskatchewan, Rojas was equally impressive.

In 34 games, the left-handed hitter recorded a .366 batting average, and 52 total hits with the Indians. Among those were five home runs, 11 doubles, and two triples. He accounted for 20 RBI, ten walks, and 11 stolen bases as well over the regular season campaign.
