Preparations are continuing for the 5th Annual Bill Lee Charity Par 3 golf tournament, coming up Friday at the Elmwood Golf Club in Swift Current.

This year, the beneficiary will be the Great Plains College Scholarship Fund with Lee, the tournament's director and co-ordinator, saying the school shares a special place in his heart.

"When I was young and I went to high school, it used to be my school when it was called Beatty Collegiate," he said. "I had probably some of the best times of my life... There was a gentleman out there called Brian Ward, who was the principal and my mentor over the years. He's one person that I still call 'mister.'"

Lee says every golfer taking part will get a prize, but there are some great hole-in-one prizes up for grabs.

"We have some great sponsors," he added. "All of the great dealerships in town are in, so you have a chance to win four brand new vehicles, we've got a grain auger from BATCO, a ride-on mower from Sears, a quad from Armstrong Implements, and Beachcomber hot tubs. There's two holes that are $50,000, and five holes that are $10,000, and a $5,000 travel voucher from WW Smith."

Lee says they still have some spots open for golfers, and there is a special deal for current and past students of Great Plains College.

"We have decided, being that this is for students... any student that wants to sign up, it's $100," he added.

The regular entry fee is $140 dollars, or $110 for Elmwood members, and you can sign up before Friday at the Elmwood clubhouse.

Lee says they are also looking for volunteers to help out as hole spotters on the course.
