Six students were selected to become fire chiefs for a day earlier this week.

The students were from Ecole Centennial, All Saint Catholic, Central, O.M. Irwin, and Fairview Schools.

Deputy Fire Chief Pete L'Heureux said that they gave the students a tour of the fire station, as well as much more.

"We do an introduction, we do photos in the chief's office. We try and make the experience really good," he said. "It's a pretty detailed station tour. We do the living quarters and places that aren't normally toured. We let the kids sit in all the trucks, we put on fire gear, we spray the fire hose, and then ariel rides. In our activities that we are doing it gives us a couple of ride in the fire apparatuses for each of the kids. It's a pretty interesting day, it's fun for the kids."

L'Heureux said that the day didn't just feature a tour of the station.

"We spent some time specifically this year and last year with the Mayor talking about the responsibilities of the City and going through the Mayor's office and council chambers and some of the things that go along with that," he said. "It's a great introduction to civic responsibility and the job of the mayor and the fire chief."

He added that overall the day was fantastic.

"Every year we have a lot of dun. The kids always have a good time and it's a great time to introduce the kids to the stuff that goes on in the community, city hall, the fire hall, and an opportunity for them to have a pretty special time being here."

To be selected the students had to show there home fire escape plan, and then be drawn at random.
