Some warmer temperatures are expected to make an appearance in southwestern Saskatchewan over the next few days, sweeping away the cooler weather.

The colder temperatures brought frost to some parts of the province over the last few days and the southwest has avoided that kind of cold and will for at least another week.

Terri Lang, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said she believes there is still some nice weather ahead for September and part of October.

"We have a big ridge of high pressure setting up over western Canada again, we saw that quite a bit over the summer, it's not the amplitude of the ridge we often see it," she said. "When it ridges overtop of us in the upper atmosphere, we tend to get those warmer temperatures, the jet stream is out of the southwest and we see sunny skies."

Friday could be the warmest day left in 2018 at a projected 30 C, which is well short of the hottest September 7 on Swift Current record at 35.6 C.

"No it doesn't look like record-breaking but certainly some nice mild temperatures to enjoy," the Saskatoon-based meteorologist said.

On Saturday night a system will move back through the area dropping temperatures off by almost 10 C, and included in that weather pattern are strong winds and the potential for rain and thunderstorms.
