Donations, participants, and hope all flooded into Swift Current to support the fight against Parkinson's last weekend.

Totals have now been roughly tabulated for the Swift Current Parkinson's SuperWalk, put on in the city by Parkinson Canada.

Participants in the southwest raised around $17,000 for the organization.

Todd MacPherson, the managing director for Saskatchewan with Parkinson Canada, said that more than money was raised through the run.

"It's about a community coming together - it's about family, friends, neighbours, coming in to support those living with Parkinson's, and just that sense that they're not alone."

He said that Swift Current was a great host for the activity.

Donations were raised through donations gathered by the teams of walkers.

He said that the funds raised at the walk would be directed towards several initiatives.

"Working towards one day having a cure, we also invest those in education for those living with Parkinson's, and help them to live well with their disease, know how to manage it best," MacPherson noted. "We do education for their healthcare professionals who treat them, and then we also provide a lot of support services, as well as advocacy."

This year, Swift Current's SuperWalk was one of the first walks in Canada to support the cause.
