Four brand new supportive living units were built on the southside of Swift Current, after construction began on the residences in October of last year.

The program is run by the Prairie Pioneer Independent Housing (PPIH) agency, that held a grand opening ceremony at the end of September.

Everett Hindley , MLA for Swift Current, attended the gathering and had the chance to meet the tenants as well as view the units.

"It's four new units of much needed affordable housing in Swift Current to help support those that live independently including those with with brain injury or other disabilities," Hindley said. "Something that is is a need here in Swift Current, and we're very glad that we now have these units in our community."

Funding for the project came from the National Housing Strategy, under the Saskatchewan Priorities Division, and was a total of $656,000.

According to a provincial release, the four-plex is situated close to the PPIH administrative office to allow management to have routine contact with tenants who have higher needs.

"Anything that we can do in partnership with the federal government and local organizations like Prairie Pioneers Independent Housing," Hindley said. "To help support these types of projects and support people, allowing them to continue to live independently in our community, I think that's a great thing."
