A Swift Current man is now in police custody after fleeing from officers and then being found with a firearm in his waistband.

It started very early Sunday morning as Moose Jaw Police tried to stop a vehicle on Main Street, but the driver sped away, leaving the city on Highway 2 North.

Police had already identified the vehicle and the driver, who was wanted on a Canada Wide Warrant for Being Unlawfully at Large.

Then late Sunday night, police spotted the vehicle on the 1200 block 3rd Avenue NE. Their suspect then left the home on foot before being arrested a few blocks away on the 1000 block of 3rd Avenue. Police say they found a loaded firearm in his waistband when arrested.

26-year-old Levi Bast appeared in court on several charges Monday, including Flight from Police, Carrying a Concealed Firearm, Possession of a Prohibited firearm with ammunition, Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to Public and several other firearm-related offences.

He has been remanded into custody until an April 4 show cause hearing.
