4H Public Speaking

The Swift Current Comprehensive High School will play host to the 4H Provincial Public Speaking Competition this afternoon.

Each 4H club at their own level has their own speaking competition, and from there the top competitors move on to districts, and then to provincials. There are 32 speakers coming to the city from all over the province, with eight speakers coming from each region in four different age groups.

"I think it's pretty brave of each speaker to get up and speak in front of such a large group, and the kids all develop skills that they'll use for the rest of their lives. Public speaking is a huge part of whatever they will encounter in their life, so it's a great skill for them to be developing at this age," said Chairperson for the 4H Provincial Public Speaking Competition, Christie Schwartz. "It's a great afternoon. I'm always surprised at how well the speakers speak. I've never been to provincials, but I've attended all of the other levels of speaking and the 4H members are amazing speakers, so anyone that comes out will definitely be entertained for the afternoon."

The speakers will show up between 11am and 12pm with the event will taking place in the cafeteria after noon.
