Tonight, the Swift Current Airport is getting ready to receive an important flight, which is coming all the way from the North Pole.

Being that it's Christmas Eve, it's not too big a surprise to hear that Todd Schultz, the superintendent at the Swift Current Airport, has been in contact with Santa Claus and prepping the runway for his nine reindeer-powered sleigh.

One of the biggest issues they had to tackle was the fact that there was no snow for St. Nick to land on this year.

"We're hoping for just a little bit on Christmas Eve to make a nice, picturesque white Christmas," said Schultz. "Santa's sleigh doesn't actually need any snow, as you can imagine. He travels to many other places in the world that don't get any. Nevertheless, Swift Current Airport is ready for Santa."

The airport will be prepped with reindeer snacks, and a little bit of varnish and spare wood to fix up the sleigh should it need a touch-up.

Runway lights will be ready for him, to guide him down the tarmac. The radio will be dialled in for Santa's frequency, ready to help him descend.

"The sleigh doesn't have much for navigation equipment, making it very difficult to track," said Schultz. "Sometimes all we catch is a few sleigh bells jingling and maybe a glint of Rudolph's red beacon, and then he's gone in a flash."

Anyone worried that Santa wouldn't make it without the snow can rest easy tonight, and keep their ears listening for the sound of hoof beats on the roof, the crunch of snow under boots, and the jingling of bells in the cool night air.

Santa is coming to town.
