Two dozen teams packed into the Social Bowl this past weekend vying for the Year-End Beer League Tournament trophy.

Mike Giesbrecht, Dustin Bakken, James Silverwood, and Nicole McClelland captured the title after 13 and a half hours of competition on Saturday. The quartet won $500 and the giant trophy.

Teagan Gader, the owner of the Social Bowl, said the tournament normally draws 16-18 teams but this year the participation spiked.

"I think people are really enjoying the league," she said. "Tons of prizes and lots of cash to be won. We had more teams signed up this year than ever (before)."

Over $10,000 in cash was distributed from Saturday's event. This year a Calcutta auction was held for the final eight teams with the winner taking home over $1,200, second place capturing over $700, and third place winning over $400.

The bowling tournament was arranged so each team had a fair chance to win.

"All pins over average and handicap is taken into account," she said. "You have to bowl your average, so it's fair game for anyone."

The season might be over but the Social Bowl is launching a fun spring league spanning six weeks beginning on May 2.
