The Swift Current Lions Club celebrated their 70th anniversary of service to the city this past Saturday.

Approximately 60 participants were at the celebration on the weekend from Lions Clubs from around south west and south central Saskatchewan

District Governor Karen Holmes was in attendance, as three new members were welcomed into the Club.

Earl Hanson, President of the Swift Current Lions Club, explains the need for more members to keep joining.

"In the early years, the club was much bigger than it was today. We had to give up organization of the Frontier Days parade after 50 years because our club has shrunk in the number of members and volunteers," he said.

Earl Hanson, President of the Swift Current Lions Club, says despite the club being much smaller than in its earlier years, the goal of community service hasn't faltered.

"There's a reason for us being here and it is community support whether it be for the blind, disaster relief, Meals on Wheels, and Salvation Army kettles to name a few.

We've also set up a number of playgrounds across the city for youth and families to use," he said.

Hanson encourages those interested in joining the Lions Club to check out what they have to offer both for the individual and the community.
