In step with SaskPower, the City of Swift Current is increasing its electrical rate effective July 1st.

All Light & Power Residential customers will see an increase of 5.1 per cent, which results in an average monthly increase of $3.50 for an apartment, $5.50 for an average home and $7.50 for a large residence for the remainder of 2016. The same increase applies to commercial customers.

"SaskPower announced a few years ago that they were going to need major increases on a regular basis to keep up with the infrastructure deficit that they have both in their generation, and in their transmission and distribution systems," said Mitch Minken, General Manger of Infrastructure and Operations for Swift Current.

Last May, SaskPower submitted their application to the Saskatchewan Rate Review panel for the 5.1 per cent increase.
