The City of Swift Current's industrial landscape is set to expand.

Construction on phase two of Munro Industrial Park will begin at the end of April.

KMS Construction Ltd., who was awarded the construction tender for the project, is hoping to get a jump on their anticipated start date.

"The contractor who has the construction contract is hoping to start with surface grading towards the end of this month," Tim Marcus, Chief Administrative Officer with the City of Swift Current said. "Then they will proceed into installing the deep services after that."

The installation of the deep service, which includes water, sewer and storm sewer, will commence during the springtime. Following the completion of the deep services, the focus of the construction will shift to shallow services, including electrical, gas, telephone and cable, during the summer months.

Towards the latter part of the summer, the City of Swift Current is hoping that curbing, sidewalks and the first layer of asphalt will start being constructed.

Currently, the City doesn't have any industrial property to sell, as phase one of Munro Industrial Park sold out. During Monday afternoon's City Council meeting, it was stated that the city has received interest from various businesses about Munro Industrial Park.

"It's always nice to have some people ready to buy as soon as the lots become available," Marcus added. "We definitely hope phase one will be successful as the last section that sold out previously."
