One Swift Current teen is going above and beyond to be a part of the change in the world.

Shawn Wiskar is one of 25 Canadian students travelling to Kenya this summer through the International Charity and Education Partner Free the Children.

Wiskar was awarded the scholarship after he submitted a video presentation highlighting the impacts he's made in the community, including his current project Five Days for Change, which has him and 9 classmates living homeless outside the comp until Friday.

"What it is is, they're taking 25 students, the PotashCorp is, from all over Canada, and they're taking them overseas to Kenya this summer," Wiskar said, "from there, we're going to be learning about the importance of food security, and the agricultural needs in a third world country."

Wiskar said the opportunity came up as they were brainstorming for Five Days for Change, and he knew he was very involved and passionate about the community.

"I knew that I myself had made big waves in my own community and I felt like the world, that was something for them to see as well."

Wiskar added he will have a message to bring back with him after the opportunity.

"It'll be our job as advocates to take back what we learned, and show people it's not what we own, but how we use what we've already got."

Wiskar is excited to represent Swift Current in Kenya this August, they will be there for two weeks.
