The City of Swift Current is hoping a couple recent purchase will help them keep on top of the cities growth.

During Monday nights council meeting, the city agreed to replace their old hydrovac/jetting combo truck while also adding a new hydrovac excavation truck to their fleet.

"As time has gone on, there has been more and more activity in our work," Mitch Minken, general manager of infrastructure and operations with the City of Swift Current said. "The one truck isn't getting it done for us now, so we're adding a second truck to the fleet to give us a little bit more resources. That new one will be a dedicated hydrovac truck for excavating around utilities."

A hydrovac truck provides a high pressurized water way of hydro-excavation that is nondestructive toward already existing utilities. The jetting unit provides services to keep sanitary pipes and storm lines clean.

After receiving multiple proposals, Council approved of the equipment with the highest evaluation score purchasing a Vactor 2100 Plus Hydrovac/Jet Combo Truck at a cost of approximately $361,000. They also approved the purchase of a Ram Vac HX12 Hydrovac Truck for approximately $544,000.

Both pieces of equipment combine to cost $905,000 - $100,000 less than what the city had budgeted for in their 2017 capital budget.
