At last night's forum for the four candidates in Swift Current's provincial byelection, each person on the ballot had a chance to answer each question asked by the public. But first they had the floor for 10 minutes to speak about what they find most important.

The governing Saskatchewan Party's candidate, Everett Hindley, worked for their last representative - now-retired Premier Brad Wall - for over a decade. He spoke of a time circa 2005-06 when there was a shortage of group homes in the area available for some of the more vulnerable in society.

Stefan Rumpel is the candidate for the opposition NDP, and was critical of the Saskatchewan Party, saying they haven't done a good job of listening to the views of the public - specifically when it took a lot of protest for the government to renege on cuts to libraries that were in the 2017 budget.

Saskatchewan Liberal candidate Aidan Roy of Weyburn made a point multiple times throughout the event, which was put on by the Swift Current and District Chamber of Commerce at the Living Sky Casino Events Centre, to dispell the idea that the provincial Liberals are associated with the federal Liberals.

And Maria Lewans, who is running for the Green Party and previously ran in the 2016 Swift Current mayoral election, said there needs to be a big shift in how things are done in order to combat climate change.

Advance voting runs 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. today, but is closed tomorrow. Thursday is byelection day.
