Saturday afternoon the first Charity Expo was held at the Swift Current Mall.

The Charity Expo featured 27 non-profit organizations raising awareness for their various causes.

Val Choo-Foo, chair of the Swift Link committee said that the expo was a chance for the organizations and public to learn.

"We thought it would be a good opportunity to bring everyone together," Choo-Foo said. "We ourselves as organizations can learn from each other and hope some of the people wandering by can learn a little about the good work. Maybe they want to join an organization, help out, donate, or even just learn because awareness is the first tool or key to learning about how we can help others in need."

Choo-Foo said that the expo celebrated all the charitable work that happens in and outside of Swift Current.

"We are celebrating all the good work that happens here in the city, and the all the humanitarian work outside of Swift Current," she said. "I think it shows the generous, kind community that we are, looking for the needs of others and helping out."

Choo-Foo added that it's so important to raise awareness for these organizations because people don't always notice the work the organizations are doing.

"We can sit and watch the news and see all the different areas of the world that need help, but at the same time we can get caught up in our own world," she said. "Living life here and being very busy, it's important to stop, sit back and look at all the work that is being done and see if we can help out. I think we have so much that we can offer and share with others."

Choo-Foo added that they also had some entertainment, as the choir from École Centennial School came and performed some songs.
