The Saskatchewan Teacher's Federation has confirmed they are walking off the job next week for the second time in their contract dispute with the province.

The union claims the provincial government has offered just over 6 per cent in wages increases over three years, a half a per cent more than they were offering before talks resumed, and the government says the teachers now wants 16 per cent over three years, a change from the one year, 12 per cent raise being asked for last week.

Spokesperson for the Saskatchwewan Teachers Federation, Steve Allen says all teachers and programs will be affected by the withdrawl of services on Wednesday and Thursday (May 25 and 26), with all professional and voluntary services being offered by teachers cancelled on both days.

Allen adds they want people to realize the value of teachers.

The Chinook School Division informed parents about the job action and the school closures through a letter sent home with students on Friday. Deputy Director of Education Kyle McIntyre says they're hopeful the issues will be resolved soon, adding in the past, the parties have been able to reach various agreements, and they're hopeful the government and the teachers can resolve their differences at the bargaining table.

In the meantime, McIntyre says they will respect the bargaining process.

McIntyre adds if parents need more information about the sanctions, they can call 778-9200, or visit their portal at chinooksd.ca.
