As Swift Current closes the books on the last decade, the small city saw some significant changes.

From a census population in 2011 of 15,500 residents, the population exploded to just over 18,000 as of 2019.

To support the growing local and provincial population, new power projects were announced and completed

The city became host to a growing list of international events. In doing so, it announced itself to the world as a city that, through the power and commitment of an army of volunteers, could host world-class events that far exceeded its population level.

With the centennial taking place in 2014, it was also a decade for the 100-year-old city to look to it's past. It opened up a new Hockey Hall of Fame, restored a piece of its cultural legacy, and in 2017 adopted a piece of Saskatchewan sports history and made it it's own.

Mayor Denis Perrault, in his Mayor's message during the 2020 budget, spoke of "Meeting the Moment"

"We do big things because we choose to. We engage as a community. We succeed as a community"

Swift Current looks to continue that tradition as it moves forward into a new decade.
