First on the agenda was the Speech from the Throne.

The Speech from the Throne unveiled the NDP government’s plan for the next year.

Premier Lorne Calvert says that we can expect a major plan on our roads and highways to be announced later this fall.

He says this will benefit trouble spots in Swift Current, such as the intersection at the #1 as well as number our highways.

The province’s young people were also at the top of the agenda.

Calvert says he’s hoping to attract and retain youth through a variety of methods. He says the government will continue it's tuition freeze and plans to create more training opportunities for First Nation and Metis people.

A recent Canada West Foundation survey shows ¼ of people under 35 in the province anticipate leaving Saskatchewan in the next five years.

Also, the government announced their intention to create a new provincial holiday in February.

Calvert says that, on the subject of taxes, an announcement is coming.

And he also says an election is coming, but not in the immediate future.
