Southwest Chronic Disease Support Inc. held its first fundraiser over the weekend.

Over 220 people came together to watch a two-person play and raise over $10,000 for the group that was formed in November of last year.

Gail Wallis, the fundraising chairman for the Southwest Chronic Disease Support  Inc. committee, explained what the group will use the money for.

"If someone gets sick and they're not on disability, they don't have income, and they have to decide whether they're going to pay bills or pay their expenses to get to treatment or to accommodate themselves when they're gone for treatment. Most people in our area have to travel; they have to leave Shaunavon and Swift Current to get the treatment that they need. Our goal is to provide financial assistance to seriously ill people in the southwest that need the assistance."

Wallis added that the event went very well and that they were happy with the turnout.

The SCDS will now be able to start accepting applications for financial assistance starting on November 1.

The applications will be available in hospitals and doctor's offices.
