They were discussing the future of their local schools.

Last night was the final meeting held by the Chinook School Division Board for the public to be part of the discussion relating to the Board’s new School Classification Plan.

Under the plan, schools would be put into different groups according to a number of criteria including their enrollment viability, facility usage and student to teacher ratio.

Schools ranked near the bottom of the list would be put under review, and possible program suspensions, or even closures, would follow.

Based on the current plan, the schools under review would include Neville, Admiral, Tompkins, Climax, Piapot, and Richmound.

Board Chair, Gary Shaddock, says he understands the concern of parents over the potential outcome for some facilities.

The public can voice their opinions to the Chinook School Board until December 4th through either a written submission or a presentation to the Board.
