For the 14th year, the Swift Current 57's Western Major Baseball League team held their annual Field of Dreams Dinner on Saturday night at the Swift Current Legion.

This year's event saw a dinner with the guest speakers, and former Toronto Blue Jays, Jesse Barfield and Willie Upshaw entertain and answer the audience's questions. After Barfield and Upshaw were done on stage, they were followed up with the live and silent auctions.

e, and after signing autographs and taking pictures, the audience got to ask them a few questions when they hit the stage.

Barfield and Upshaw answering a fans question about the strangest superstition they saw in their careers.

Barfield, who played for the Blue Jays from 1981 to 1989, said that anytime he can help out baseball in Canada he is happy to do so.

"First of all it's a great cause," he said. "Anything I can do for my brothers up in Canada, if I'm available I'm here because they mean a lot to me."

Willie Upshaw, who played nine seasons with the Blue Jays, said that he was happy to be able to help out.

"It's been a really good day," he said. "The cause is good. It's for their summer program and good for the kids. They won't have to struggle in certain areas, so it's good for us to be here and have a little fun in the winter, get the juices flowing again and hopefully send everything in the right direction for the summer."

Upshaw added that as a former ballplayer he knows that the money raised will really help out the players on 57's.

"It's much needed," he said. "The kids, hopefully, they're going to work a little bit, but the money will keep them from struggling in areas, so it doesn't take away from their baseball, which is really important."

After the question period wrapped up, it was time for the silent auction and live auction which helped raise over $10,000.

The funds raised at the dinner by the 57's will go towards paying for their general expenses.

The reigning WMBL Champions will start their quest for a three-peat as they kick off their season on June 1 when the Moose Jaw Miller Express come to town.
