The Water Treatment Plant upgrades are moving into the detailed design stage.

Director of Engineering Mac Forster says the contract has been awarded to AECOM Canada Ltd. for $867, 500.

The upgrades to the facility will include increasing the capacity of the plant from 21 megalitres per day, to 35 megalitres per day.  There will also be an improved clarification process, a chemical management facility, an ultraviolet disinfection facility, new heating and electrical systems, and high lift pump upgrades.

The total cost of this project will be $13 million.  Forster adds that utility fees will be increased in the future to help pay for the project.
