Swift Current RCMP are investigating a theft of a pickup truck stolen from a residence on the 300 block of 6th Avenue SE early in the morning on May 5th.

The truck is a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche, white in colour, with a decal across the windshield saying Pelletier.

Unlocked vehicles and subsequent thefts have become a issue in Swift Current, with Cst. Tony Curti telling us more.

"A lot lately people are getting things taken from cars overnight. I'm sure it is a few groups of people. It's easy money because people leave wallets, money and nice things in their vehicles. Right now it is mostly money-- nickels, dimes, quarters, you name it."

"The weather is nice, the door is open and people are stealing," says Curti. "I've heard of some instances where they're trying the front doors of some houses, that was a couple weeks back. Going from the vehicles to the front door at 3 o clock in the morning. If they're that brass that they're gonna try the doors of houses now, where does it end?"

Most thefts occur very early morning, and the RCMP strongly encourages locals lock their vehicles and all valuables as it heavily prevents the crime from being committed.

Anyone with information on the stolen 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche are asked to contact the city detachment.
