Staying active can be a challenge in the winter, especially during extreme cold temperatures in the southwest.

The City of Swift Current organizes a variety of indoor activities to help keep those joints warm when it's freezing outside, with something for every schedule and budget.

In-Motion Community Facilitator for the City, Val Choo-Foo, said the Walking for Wellness program started up just after Thanksgiving and runs Monday through Friday until Easter.

"All of us who love to be outside walking, sometimes that ice, wind and, well, -50 weather can interrupt those routines," she said. "You can come and have a huge [indoor] space at the Stockade, with some beautiful new flooring. It's cushioned, it's great for the joints as we're walking."

Walking for Wellness takes place at several locations throughout the week, including the Stockade Building at Kinetic Park, the InnovationPlex, and the Swift Current Comprehensive High School.

Other popular activities in the community during the winter months are Monday and Wednesday noon hour drop-in pickleball, and the Pre and Post Pregnancy Fitness class for young families.
