One of Saskatchewan's biggest exports will be making its way to Bangladesh, after a $40 million US contract that will see Canpotex supply the country with 120,000 tonnes of potash was signed Wednesday in Saskatoon.

"Bangladesh is very important to Saskatchewan," Premier Brad Wall said. "50% of all Canadian exports to that country come from our province. We have been able to maintain these significant export numbers even without potash, our most famous exports - until today we have this very exciting agreement."

Wall says the contract will mean a lot to the continued strength and stability of the province's potash industry.

"Saskatchewan is unique in Canada and frankly in the world to have this resource and three great companies that produce the potash," he added. "This is a big deal for the province from an economic development standpoint, but the measure is stability, growth, jobs and quality of life."

The agreement between the Canadian Commercial Corporation and the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation is the first government-to-government sale arrangement between the two countries and corporations.
