Winter weather with heavy snowfall is being blamed for a massive power outage in Swift Current and across much of southern Saskatchewan Saturday night.

James Parker of SaskPower Media Relations says power was out for about an hour in Swift Current after snow and ice caused a problem with a main transmission line running from Moose Jaw to Swift Current.

Parker says many communities in southwest Saskatchewan were without power because of the heavy snowfall, ice, and wind affecting transmission lines.

He says crews did a great job of locating the problem and getting power restored as quickly as possible.

The power outage also affected the Swift Current Broncos game with the Regina Pats after power went out as the Credit Union iplex, and caused the third period to be delayed by about an hour.
