Shaunavon's Haley Wickenheiser will go for her fourth consecutive gold medal in women's hockey this morning, but has been already honoured by her fellow athletes at the Winter Games in Sochi.

She was elected to the International Olympic Committee's Athletes' Commission along with Norwegian skiiing legend Einar Bjorndalen, and will formally begin her eight-year term at Sunday's closing ceremony. The 12-athlete commission assists the IOC in a number of areas including host selection, the make-up of the sports at the games and the fight against doping.

Wickenheiser is a five-time winter Olympian and carried the flag for Canada at the opening ceremonies of the Sochi Olympics on February 7th.

She will lead Team Canada against the USA in this morning's women's hockey final. Wickenheiser has five points in four games at the tournament as Canada cruised to an unbeaten record in the round-robin and a 3-1 win over Switzerland in the semi-final on Monday.

The game starts at 11:00am, and can be seen on CBC.

Aneroid's Patrick Marleau and Team Canada eked out a 2-1 win over Latvia Wednesday to reach the men's hockey semi-final on Friday against the United States.

In action today, Jennifer Jones and Canada's women's curling team won gold after defeating Sweden 6-3 this morning. Canada now has 19 medals (6 gold, 9 silver, 4 bronze) at the games. Jones became the first skip in history to win every game at an Olympic curling tournament, and claimed Canada's first gold in women's curling since the late Sandra Schmirler won in 1998.

Brad Jacobs and the men's curling team will face Great Britain for gold Friday morning.
