The Swift Current Innovation Credit Union U18 AAA Wildcats opened the Mandi Schwartz Memorial Tournament with a 3-2 loss to the Calgary Fire Thursday morning in Milestone.

Caitlyn Perlinger opened the scoring at 4:05 of the first period before Tyra Edl tied it up at 1-1 late in the frame. Evelyn Lawrence made it 2-1 for Calgary with a goal early in the second, but Kaylee Williams responded less than a minute later to even things up again after 40 minutes. Summer Fomradas scored 45 seconds into the third period for Canada, and that goal would hold up as the game winner.

Karlee Lehner made 33 saves as Calgary outshot Swift Current 36-29.

The Wildcats continue the tournament tonight when they face the Winnipeg Avros in Milestone, and then wrap up the round robin on Friday afternoon in Wilcox against the South Alberta Hockey Academy.
