The Swift Current Wildlife Federation held their annual conservation dinner and auction Saturday night.

The 27th fundraiser saw over 200 people come together in the Legion to raise money for the Wildfire Federation's projects throughout the year.

Dave Gloeckler, Fundraising Chairmen for the Swift Current Wildlife Federation, said that the money they raised would be put to good use.

"We do a lot of different projects," he said. "We support a lot of kids projects through the Sask. Wildlife Federation. We donate to them, and they have fishing schools, and N.A.S.P (National Archery in the Schools Program). We bought three or four N.A.S.P. packages for other schools around here. We do a lot of kids stuff like the Burnett pond; that's a long-term goal of ours to have trout right in the city to watch."

Gloeckler said that the overall goal of all their projects is to get more people involved in the outdoors.

"We're conservationists," he said. "What we want to do is leave a better state for kids and get them interested in wildlife and put the electronics down. That's what we would like to see. We want to get kids more involved with the outdoor activities."

Gloeckler said that the attendance of this year's event was a down a little due to the Broncos playoff game, but not by much.

"It's the second time in 27 years that we've had a Broncos game the same night," he said. "It doesn't seem to hurt too much, the tables are full of people, everything is good tonight, and hopefully we make some money."

The dinner and auction saw over 200 items being auctioned and raffled off.

Gloeckler said that a lot of the items that are auctioned off are from stores in the Swift Current area.

"Some are donated, a lot are cash donations, and then we go out and buy the merchandise," he said. "We try and shop as much as we can locally. Go to the stores and spend our money here."

Gloecker added that though attendance was down, he has no complaints about the night.

"The public has treated us very well in this city," he said. "We've had tons of support from local businesses. It's a little smaller attendance but the donations are the same, and I can't complain."

The fundraiser doesn't have a final total yet, but Gloecker said they are hoping they raised about $40,000 from the event.
