Indians aug14

The Swift Current Indians and Medicine Hat Mavericks are all square in the WMBL Final series.

The Tribe dropped a 5-2 decision to the Mavs in game two last night in front of over 800 fans at Mitchell Field, and the best of five series is now even at a game apiece.

Eric Sams hit a solo home run in the eighth inning, and league RBI leader Eros Modena drove home a run, but the Tribe's bats were kept mostly quiet by Mavericks pitcher JP Stevenson, who pitched a complete game with six hits allowed and six strikeouts.

"Their guy pitched a good game," said Indians Coach Joe Carnahan. "He kept us off balance, and that's the bottom line... We made some solid contact, but not a whole lot of of it today. We just got to have better at-bats tomorrow and start cashing in some runners."

Swift Current Starter Sean Callegari allowed five runs and six hits in just four innings of work to get the loss.

The Indians travel to Medicine Hat tonight for game three of the best of five series, with game four set for the Gas City Saturday night. Game five, if necessary, will be in Swift Current on Sunday.
