A local worker in Saskatoon would like to see local companies given more of an opportunity by the provincial government.

Justin Stuart is the Equipment Business Developer at Benchmark Personal Protective Equipment. The company recently received a contract from the Ministry of Education to produce PPE equipment for Saskatchewan schools.

Stuart says more local businesses like them should be provided with an opportunity.

"People who spend public money in the province, it would be excellent if they were required to give an opportunity not a guarantee but an opportunity to local manufactures, like a percentage of what they buy for example."

Stuart adds that when these contracts happen its not just about price.

"One thing I'll say with this particular order with the Ministry of Education it was a really tight delivery schedule. Were labouring really hard to try and meet it. For whatever reason, that's the way that procurement sometimes happens, it's not always about price. Price is almost always part of it but there's other thing's to consider."

Stuart believes other factors of consideration include availability, time for delivery, and delivery cost as well as community benefit.

I would like to see a more robust point system when it comes to spending tax payer dollars says Stuart.
