Swift Current hometown artist, Colter Wall, was nominated this year for CBC Saskatchewan's Future 40 2015.

Individuals, leaders, and change-makers under the age of 40 can be nominated for the competition, where 40 nominees will be selected by a jury to receive invitation to an exclusive networking reception, a Future 40 profile and official award.

"I've been extremely blessed and lucky to have a lot of opportunities present themselves just within the past few months," says Wall. "I've been able to achieve some pretty cool things, but I owe a lot of it to all of my supporters and everybody who has been helping make it all happen."

The nomination came from Sask Music Board Member, Taron Cochrane, as Wall explains.

"This is a guy that makes it his personal business and really his entire life to support local music and the music in this province, and he has been a massive support to me. If it weren't for him I'm dead certain that I wouldn't be in the place I'm in now and I wouldn't have gotten nearly as much recognition as I've gotten in the past few months. So I owe a great deal to that guy.”

Wall began his musical journey in Swift Current, performing at the Lyric Theatre with original melodies that take you back to the days of Bob Dylan and Townes Van Zandt, two of his biggest musical influences.

"One of the initial reasons that I even got into doing folk music and writing songs was Bob Dylan and listening to really early Dylan stuff," he explained. "Townes Van Zandt is a huge song writing influence of mine, I think he was incredible and a really special song writer and artist, but the list goes on forever, I'm a big fan of a lot of folk artists. I think it's just as important to stay in touch with what's going on nowadays, but also incredibly imperative that people are aware of the history of it all."

Wall's music went global in 2015, in part to a tweet from WWE Wrestler Brock Lesnar and Wall's music being featured on episodes of Dog the Bounty Hunter.
