The National Flag Tour for the 2017 Invictus Games made a stop in Memorial Park in Swift Current yesterday afternoon.

The Invictus Games uses sport and competition for ill, injured, and wounded servicemen and women to inspire them on their road to rehabilitation and recovery, and to help individuals understand and respect what those who serve their country can go through.

Corporal Daniel Goncalves, an active duty member of the Dundurn detachment in Saskatchewan, spoke on what it means to be a flag-bearer on the road to the games.

"I'm very humbled that I've been selected as a flag-bearer to represent these people. If I was in the same position as them, I'd want people to step up and do the same for me," he said. "As a serving Canadian Forces member, I believe that we are a family and we have to be there for each other."

The Invictus Games will feature 550 competitors from 17 nations participating in 12 adaptive sports.

The third edition of the games will take place September 23 - 30 in Toronto.
