The Town of Shaunavon has recently been made aware of the recent EMS, or Emergency Medical Services, staffing shortages in Shaunavon, which means that responses to medical calls may be required to be responded to by neighboring communities.

The Town of Shaunavon deems this as unacceptable and will be pressuring the government, and working with the Cypress Health Region, to come up with a viable long term solution to EMS staffing in the Health Region.

Shaunavon Mayor Grant Greenslade says, "We've sent letters to the Health Region encouraging them to find a solution to this problem because it keeps coming up over and over again. And long term we need to find a solution that's gonna work. We're stealing services from surrounding communities to help cover Shaunavon, which isn't fair to our surrounding communities. The response time get longer, and the communities that we're taking the ambulance to cover Shaunavon off..they're without the ambulance."

Greenslade adds that they need to pressure the provincial government to increase subsidies or whatever is required to solve the problem.

As always, if you are experiencing a medical emergency, please dial 9-1-1. EMS staff will be dispatched to assist you.

The Town of Shaunavon continues to work on this issue and will keep everyone updated as developments occur.
