The stars of tomorrow are back in Swift Current for the start of WHL training camp.

The first step is perhaps the most challenging as they go through fitness testing.

"For the young guys that just got here it's just a baseline test for years to come," said Broncos Coach/GM Mark Lamb. "You can see where they've gained. If they start going the other way that's a big red flag."

"(Veterans) are going to know exactly what to expect. If they had a good summer they can get off to a good start. If you're battling some weight issues or you haven't worked out now you're going uphill."

Coaches and scouts certainly keep an eye on players who impress or struggle in that initial fitness testing in those battles for roster spots.

"We don't do the fitness test for no reason," Lamb said. "You can't take summers off. You can have a lot of fun but you have to put the work in. A lot of these kids they're growing, their body is changing a lot and we want them to put on good weight."

On-ice sessions start Thursday with scrimmages at 4pm and 6pm every day until Saturday.

The Blue and White game is Sunday afternoon at 1pm with money raised going towards Firststart Swift Current.
