Canada has its first win at the 2013 World Junior Hockey Championships thanks to an impressive performance from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.

The Edmonton Oilers forward had a goal and four assists to lead Canada past Germany 9-3 in the first game for both clubs in Ufa, Russia on Wednesday. Mark Scheifele scored twice for Canada, which faces Slovakia Friday morning.

Meanwhile, Finland opened the tournament with a 5-1 win over Latvia on Wednesday. Broncos goalie Eetu Laurikainen is on Team Finland as a backup and did not see action in that game. They take on the Czech Republic Friday.
