It was strong start for Swift Current's Kelsey Dutton rink, as they began their 2016 Viterra Scotties run yesterday afternoon in Prince Albert.

Dutton and her team opened their tournament taking on Balgonie's Mandy Selzer.

After a clean start in the first end leading to a blank, Dutton scored a single point in the second to get on the board.

Then Selzer went on to blank the next end before being forced to a single in the fourth.

The two teams would then continue to trade singles in the fifth and sixth, as Dutton and Selzer were tied 2-2 heading to the seventh end.

In the seventh, Dutton took advantage of last rock, scoring the first and only deuce of the game, taking a 4-2 lead.

After Selzer took one in eight, Dutton restored her two point lead scoring a single in nine, putting her up 5-3 heading to the final end.

In the tenth, Selzer was unable to get anything going, and was left with no shot on her final rock, leading to handshakes and a victory for the Swift Current team.

Dutton will now enter today's action with a chance to make a strong move towards a playoff spot.

Dutton will battle the two highest ranked teams in Pool 'B'.

She'll take on Saskatoon's Sherry Anderson at 2:00pm, before battling Regina's Michelle Englot at 7:30pm.
