Another school year has begun and with it the start to the fall sports season.  Students will be involved in golf, soccer, football, volleyball and cross country over the next few weeks.

The Swift Current Ardens soccer team will be trying to defend their championship in the Moose Jaw soccer league.  The team opens their season on the road Sat, Sept. 8 when they play Weyburn.  Their first home game is Thurs, Sept 13 when they host Moose Jaw Central at 4:30 p.m.

Our golfers, in both sand and grass green, will be competing for the district championships.  Sand green will be in Frontier on Sept. 11 while grass green will be played at Leader on Sept. 13.  Golfers will be competing in team and individual categories with the winners going on to provincials on Sept. 21/22.

Football practices are well underway.  We have four football teams in the southwest:

6 man – Gull Lake Lions
9 man – Maple Creek Redmen and Shaunavon Shadows
12 man – Swift Current Colts

Gull Lake kicks off their season Sept 6 in an exhibition game at Elrose.  The Lions’ first home game is Wed Sept 12 when they host Eston. 

Maple Creek and Shaunavon play their first game on Friday, Sept. 7.  Maple Creek hosts Assiniboia while Shaunavon travels to Fort Qu’Appelle.  The Shaunavon Shadows second game will be at home when they host Assiniboia on Thurs, Sept 13.  Maple Creek Redmen’s second game is also at home. They host Lumsden on Friday, Sept. 14.

Swift Current Colts football team starts the season on the road when they travel to Moose Jaw to play Central on Sat, Sept 8.  The Colts first home game is Thurs, Sept 13 when they play Moose Jaw Vanier. 

Please note there is a volleyball officials’ clinic on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 6:30 p.m. at Swift Current Comp seminar room.  Anyone interested in officiating volleyball is welcome to attend.  There is no cost for the clinic.
