Swift Current volleyball star Braedon Friesen earned an international bronze medal with Team Canada's U21 Men's team this past week at the NORCECA continental championships in Havana, Cuba.

Friesen and Team Canada worked a 2-1 record in Group B play.

The Canadians opened with a three-set sweeps of Haiti (25-14, 25-17, 25-18) and Nicaragua (25-16, 25-20, 25-15).

In the final game of the group stage, Canada fell in four sets to the United States (14-25, 25-23, 23-25, 24-26)

Second-seeded Canada headed into the quarter-finals matched up against Group A's third seed from Barbados. There, they handled the Caribbean club in three-straight sets (25-13, 25-14, 25-20).

However, the toughest opponent yet awaited in the semi-finals.

The eventual champions from Cuba defeated the Canadians in four sets (25-21, 21-25, 18-25, 18-25), dropping Friesen and Canada to the bronze-medal match.

There, Canada won a revenge game against the Americans.

In another tight tilt, Canada won in four sets (25-22, 25-23, 25-27, 25-17).

With the bronze under his belt, Friesen now looks to start his university career with the prominent University of Alberta Golden Bears.
