Glenn Gawdin scored twice and added another in the shootout as the Swift Current Broncos came from down 2-0 to beat Prince Albert 3-2.

It was Gawdin's second straight two-goal game as he again sparked their comeback.

“It's not just the goals he's scoring,” said Broncos associate coach Ryan Smith. “He's physical, he's winning 75% of his draws, killing penalties, he's leading and everything that a 'C' is. It's nice to see him get rewarded. What a shootout goal there was no doubt about that. I can't speak how highly I think of him.”

Swift Current got behind 1-0 on a Cole Fonstad first period power play goal as Parker Kelly hit him with a back door pass. The Raiders then pulled ahead 2-0 when Jordy Stallard completed a two-on-one early in the second period.

“I thought it was a pretty gutsy performance by our guys,” Smith said. “I liked a lot of what we did I think we stuck to the plan. We gave up a power play goal it happened so quick we missed our assignment. The second goal was a break down in neutral zone causing a two on one. After that we were pretty solid defensively limiting chances. That was important not to give up that third goal.”

The Broncos had a hard time generating much steady pressure in the first half of the game. They were outshot 10-0 in the first half of the second period before they started turning the game around.

“We were playing a pretty good defensive game but we weren't generating a lot,” Smith said. “I thought what we did then was we put pucks behind them, got on top of their D and turned the puck over. That was kind of the turning point midway through we said lets get after their D.”

Gawdin converted a really nice pass by Aleksi Heponiemi to pull Swift Current within a goal by the end of the second period. Then then got a good bounce in the third period as an Artyom Minulin shot deflected high in the air and landed right in front of Gawdin before he ripped home his second of the night.

Gawdin now has 19 goals on the season only 8 shy of his career high.

Steenbergen and Gawdin scored for the Broncos in the shootout, while Logan Flodell stopped both Raiders shooters. Flodell made 29 saves to earn his league leading 15th win of the season.

Heponiemi's assist extended his point streak to 15 games.

The 17-5-1-0 Broncos are back home against Brandon on Saturday night. The Wheat Kings are coming off giving up a 4-1 and 5-3 leads in a loss to Saskatoon, but beat the Broncos 7-3 last Sunday.

“I understand they had a tough end to their game tonight so I'm sure they want to get back on the winning side,” Smith said. “I think we have a little bit from last Sunday afternoon that was a chippy game and we have something to prove on home ice. We have to come out strong and dictate the play.”
