Two southwest football teams are playing host to Provincial quarterfinal contests Saturday afternoon after wrapping up their respective conference seasons.

In 6-man football, the Gull Lake Lions continue to make their presence felt in 1A high school football.

The conference-leading Lions topped the fourth-seeded Central Butte Bulldogs 81-30 in Conference 3 playoff action on October 20 for their third win of the season against the Bulldogs.

Shifting focus to SHSAA 1A Provincial playoffs, the Lions are in familiar territory against a somewhat unfamiliar opponent.

Gull Lake hosts the Kerrobert Rebels at Gerry Elmslie Field on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the winner advancing to the Provincial semifinal.

Meanwhile, in 9-man Conference 2 football, the Shaunavon Shadows more than doubled up Fort Qu'Appelle 55-27 this past Friday to close out the regular season in second place at 4-2.

Quarterback/utility player Nixen Voll set a school record in the regular season by returning 6 punts for touchdowns in the six-game span.

Shaunavon is now at Shadows Field this Saturday at 3 p.m. for their 9-man Provincial Quarterfinal against Unity.
