It was an NHL debut Aleksi Heponiemi will never forget last night.

The former Swift Current Bronco potted the overtime winner for the Florida Panthers to propel them past the Detroit Red Wings 3-2.

He's the fourth player ever in NHL history to score an overtime winner in their NHL debut according to the NHL's Public Relations Twitter account joining Kirill Kaprizov (Jan. 14, 2021; Tim Sweeney (Oct. 4, 1990); and Nick Knott (Nov. 2, 1941).

The 22-year-old logged 9:30 in the game and scored on his lone shot on net in the win.

He's also the second player from the 2017-18 Broncos team that won the WHL title to make it to the NHL, Beck Malenstyn was the first.
